The lesson started with modelled reading. The resources used for this activity included a big book of Mem Foxs Possum Magic and the white board. Before the reading began the teacher introduced the book and asked the children to make predictions about what would happen in the book. The predictions were written up on the white board. The precursor of having the children make predictions about the text seemed to engage them, they listened more intently to the story to see if they were right.

Teacher thinking: Before class I need to obtain historic photos of the Clifton Springs area from the school library and set them up in the room. Probably stick them to the white board with magnets. Bring Jeannie Bakers Window big book, make sure the white board markers are working, and make sure there is enough A3 paper and pencils for seven groups of children.
Context of lesson
This lesson is an introduction to a new humanities focus on the changes and continuity of the students local area over time.
